chalo ek baar phir se ajnabii ban jaayeN ham donoN
na maiN tum se ko’ii ummiid rakhuuN dil navaazii kii
na tum merii taraf dekho Ghalat andaaz nazroN se
na mere dil kii dhaRkan laRkhaRaaye merii baatoN meN
na zaahir ho tumhaarii kash-ma-kash kaa raaz nazroN se
chalo ek baar phir se ajnabii ban jaayeN ham donoN
tumheN bhii ko’ii uljhan roktii hai pesh-kadmii se
mujhe bhii log kahte haiN ke ye jalve paraaye haiN
mere ham-raah bhii rusavaaiyaaN haiN mere maazii kii
tumhaare saath bhii guzrii hu’ii raatoN ke saaye haiN
ta’arruf rog ho jaaye to us ko bhuulnaa behtar
ta’alluq bojh ban jaaye to us ko toRnaa achchaa
vo afsaanaa jise ajnaam tak laanaa na ho mumkin

This is one of my favourites by Sahir. It was nice indeed to have him narrating it in his own voice. Good job.
I heard that this nazm was based on Sahir sahab’s true life experience with Sudha Malhotra. Of course, the nazm was later included in the B R Chopra film Gumaraaha, starring Ashok Kumar, Sunil Dutt, Mala Sinha, music by Ravi
Really enjoyed this one. Thanx for reconnecting me to the great pleasure of Urdu Poetry after many years .

Today I feeling very high after listening the poem of my mentor poet Sahir Sahib in his own voice. I never had a chance to meet or listen Sahir Sahib’s voice. Thanks a lot.

thanxa lot for giving us the opportunity of getting it tuned in his own voice….one can imagine the turns and the circumstances what he has gone through,, where he was forced to write such deep emotions and his feelings so beautifully…….aapka bahot shukriya , badee nawaazish ,ke aaj bhee aankhon main aansoo umadne par majboor kar dete hain….. such songs…kiyonki aansoo bahot qeemtee motee haiN aisey nahee bahaye jaa saktey hain unless and untill one feels the same emotions what Sahir sb has written so deeply…with such gr8 n deep nvolvement……..Farzana siddiqui

it was a nostalgic and magical experience to hear such a nice piece of poetry from sahir sabab himself. one of the things i noticed that sahir sabhab never used to recite his nazms and never unnecessarily repeat the same. he would never ask for / waive hand for accolades.
